DJ Tech Tools Trots Out Vestax VCI//400 Ean Golden Edition

Ean Golden has announced the VCI//400, an enhanced version of the Vestax stable, which touts a completely custom design including matte black paint, glossy highlights and blue-colored filter knobs. The sturdy metal chassis sports matte black faders and a full set of Chroma Caps in matte black (other colors are available for customization).

The controllers real mojo is in Golden’s custom mapping and firmware. Golden claims to have taken the best elements of his mappings for the VCI-100SE, the S4, and the Midi Fighter and combined them into one interface. Features of the mapping include:

» Dedicated 2 X 4 Grid with four different performance functions:
— 8 Step Slicer functionality (similar to the Twitch controller)
— 8 button Instant Gratification page
— 8 Cue points
— A GRID layer allows you to slice up loops into glitch patterns on the fly.
» Loop Deck Control Options:
— Four dedicated Loop Mute buttons in the transport section. Mute individual parts and play a loop deck just like a single track.
— Dedicated Loop Deck section in the FX area with mute, volume, filter and triggers for each loop slot.
» Additional Mapping Features:
— Unique Record section that easily records parts from a song with one press.
— S4-style Loop section with encoders for loop set, length and move
» By designing our own custom firmware for the device, it allows for:
— Special load buttons that allow you to load groups of loops into a loop deck with one click
— A performance Grid section that allows you to jump in realtime between 8 slices of the current phrase
— Jog FX feedback into the Jog Wheel LEDs
— Improved lighting scheme on all buttons that allows clear reference between modes

Mike Henderson, aka DJ Endo, is a self-described “man of many different hats.” Known to many as the guy who created the most widely-used Maschine mapping for Traktor Pro, to others as the individual who originally figured out how to sync Ableton Live and Traktor, the force behind harmonic mixing and a contributor to the Mixed In Key algorithm, the tour manager of Pete Tong, Dubfire, Felix Tha Housecat, (and other top DJs), the Native Instruments product specialist, the lead Traktor instructor at Dubspot…or as the great DJ Endo, who has no problem holding down a 12-hour birthday set live on the radio.

To us, he’s just “the man behind the curtain…”
